I am in the process of converting a larg web app from VS2003 to VS2005. 1) I installed Visual Studio 2005 on a clean machine. 2) I took a copy of the source code from the 2003 system and placed it on the 2005 system. I ran the conversion wizard on the
solution, the newer web application version. Things did not work well, I had multiple errors involving numerous things. The partial code in the App_Code folder would not compile, several html tags were bad, etc, etc..
The question is can I convert a solution like this or do I have to convert the solution on the 2003 system.

Some additional information:
OS is XP Professional. Visual Studio is Professional.
There is one solution and it has three projects in it. When I use the WAP method, files were downloaded this week, the projects show as un-available.
My next plan of action is to remove VS2005 from the system, install VS2003, get the solution to run, and then try to convert to VS2005 WAP again. It just seems a lot of trial and error stuff.
Any suggestions would help, Thanks.

Given the complexity of your solution, using WAP is probably a good call.
We do recommend you make sure it is running in VS03 before doing the conversion. Also make sure to follow the steps outlined at
http://webproject.scottgu.com/ -- they are designed to help you convert as easily as possible.
If you still have problems after that, feel free to post here with a description of the problem and the error you get -- we'll do our best to help you out.

I just finished removing VS2005, re-installing VS2003, compiling, cleaning up, backing up and running the app. Another cup of java and i am going to do the dastardly conversion deed. I will post here the results.

Thanks again for the help Mike,
I have SUCCESS! The app is now up and running, and I do have VS2003 and VS2005 on the same machine. Other than a few obsolete code warnings things went great. The trick to this was to have the 2003 version up and running on the same machine before ever
trying the conversion.

Dear lblanton it is great that you have been successed to run vs2003 with vs2005 sid-by-side
have you installed something extra or just insalled vs2005 on you OS which contains vs2003
