I've been having a lot of trouble trying to configure authentication - first with DNN 4.0, then 3.20 when I gave up on DNN4. The problem is when I go to the authentication screen I get the error: "The default authentication provider specified in web.config
is not configured properly. Authentication settings are disabled."
This is on a fresh install, new database, running on XP. I've tried forms/windows auth, anonymous enabled/disabled, security settings on Admin/Security/WindowsSignin.aspx, and yes I've uncommented the httpmodules line. Have also tried clearing the cache,
iisreset, etc. No change.
I opened the solution in Visual Studio and ran it in debug... the problem occurs at the line:
Me.cboAuthenticationType.DataSource = objAuthenticationController.AuthenticationTypes
when Reflection.CreateObject throws an exception (Activator.CreateInstance). The exception is:
An unhandled exception of type 'System.Reflection.TargetInvocationException' occurred in mscorlib.dll
Additional information: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation.
With an InnerException of System.Security.SecurityException ("Security error").

S'ok... I finally got it figured out.
Turned out I needed to change the trust level to take care of the security exception... changed trust level to "Full", did an iisreset, and then... well, other problems but they were minor.
Now... can anyone help me with getting the sync roles working?
