I have a multi-application web site, most of whose apps are dependent upon two control assemblies. I noticed some apps kept running with out-of-date assemblies, so I watched the date/time stamps of the DLLs. What I saw was this:
1) After rebuilding a dependent control assembly, the resulting DLL is copied into the bin directories of the dependent web apps. This is as it should be.
2) When I hit Run, VS2005 goes through an extraordinarily LENGTHY process of rebuilding and revalidating THINGS THAT HAVEN'T CHANGED. Along the way, the old version of the DLL GETS COPIED OVER THE NEWLY BUILT, CORRECT VERSION!
This is very frustrating. VS2005 doesn't seem ready for prime time to me: its size, sluggishness and unreliable behavior are intimidating.
