> Should the alias include the computer name or not?
The alias must be the URL you type in a browser to reach the site. If that includes machine name, then that's what is required.
> I want to be able to access using url: "mycomputer/mycompany". What alias value should I put?
You can't do this with an alias entry. Your portal is located in the /dotnetnuke/mydepartment folder, that has to be specified on the alias. The alternative is a page at mycomputer/ that redirects to the folder the site is actually in.
> Also, does the word 'dotnetnuke' have to be part of alias?
If "dotnetnuke" is the folder you installed to, then yes it has to be in the alias. If you installed DNN to the BobsYerUncle virtual driectory then you need "BobsYerUncle" as part of the alias.
> Another question: Is it possible to remove the word 'dotnetnuke' from my url before I go live with the application or is it already set in the configuration & I need to re-install?

I goofed and accidently deleted a portal
my ISP restored a backup to prior weedend. Now I have do not have an images folder. They recommend I just delete and rebuild this unless you know another way to fix it.
