I just installed 4.0.2 on my web server. I opened IE on the actual web server to do the install and everything looks fine. When I am in IE on the web server, I type
http://server-name/DotNetNuke and it changes server-name to localhost and proceeds to show DNN just fine and I can edit, log in, etc just fine.
SO, when I am working on my personal computer, and i type in
http://server-name/DotNetNuke, it changes server-name to localhost and therefor doesn't find the file because it doesn't exist on my server. I get the following error:
What is causing the url to change the server-name to localhost and how do I fix this?
Please try the following:
Technical Information (for support personnel)

if i type in http://server-name/DotNetNuke/default.aspx it changes the server-name to localhost
if I type in http://server-name/DotNetNuke/404.htm or DotNetNuke.ico, it keeps the server-name and displays the file I am trying to access.
Of all the files in the DotNetNuke directory, the ones that change the server-name to localhost are:
default.aspx, rss.aspx, linkclick.aspx when i type these in, it removes the file name competely and replaces server-name with localhost so
Any thoughts? Anyone?!?!? :)

in case anyone cares/comes across the same problem.
This might be obvious to so many of you, but unfortunately it wasn't for me. :(
I logged in to the site (from the server) as host. I went to host/portals and the only portal alias listed was localhost/dotnetnuke. I created a new alias for
www.whatever.com/Dotnetnuke and now it works great.
