Dear forum members, thanx for da job you are doing! Keep it up!
I'm actually new to DNN and i need your inputs.
I've extracted DNN 4.02 .install to the following directory "C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\DotNetNuke\Website". What is confusing me is that, the files & folders from the extract are similar to the ones that you get when you create a new DNN Web Application! So i
want to know, what is the use of the files from the extract? coz i happen to install the Starter kit, and i'm able to create website on locahost!
Secondly, when i create a new DNN web application, is it necessary that i save the new website in the same directory (C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\DotNetNuke\Website") i extracted the other files ?
Thirdly, i need to configure my webserver like this: i want to have one directory, let say this one DotNetNuke, under which i can have may DNN1,DNN2... etc as different websites. Now with portals, should i only have one parent portal and many children portals
under it, or should i install different instances of dnn for each website?
Also i wud like 2 know, in the IIS, let say i have da Default website which is pointing to C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\DotNetNuke or shold it be C:\Inetpub\wwwroot (advice needed!). Then i give it the following settings
* IP :188.8.131.52
* Host header : itsweb.co.za (shoul i use host headers when i'm using DNN?)
* Port 80
Now under this Default website i create a virtual directory called DNN which point ,may be, to the first website i created. My question here is that, shoul i have a virtual directory for each DNN website i create? If so i do i configure IIS6& DNN portals
to be able to host differents sites with one IP address??
Your help is most needed, tell me if i'm already confused or i'm on da right track!
The South African.
