Is there any way to prevent conversation tries of VS 2005? I have got many applications made with VS 2003 and any time the 2005 converts the application there appear lots of errors - most of them with Namespaces, and they take a long time in account.
Or is there a general solution for this issue?

One option to consider for upgrading web projects to VS 2005 using the new VS 2005 Web Application Project model (details here:
http://webproject.scottgu.com). This ends up being a much easier way to upgrade existing VS 2003 projects, and typically doesn't require any code changes.
The current build above is still a preview, but is functional enough to get you going (there are tutorials on the site to learn more about it -- including step-by-step instructions on how to upgrade from VS 2003).
We are then going to finish up the project this spring as a web download, and will also roll it into VS 2005 SP1 later this year (so it will be a fully supported option going forward).
Hope this helps,

After going through the tuturial, I saw that it doesn't matter if you have other "non web" projects.
BTW, it seems to have worked great.

I just wanted to confirm that your migration went ok. I'm not 100% sure based on your post above. If not, I can help you.

So far, so good... I still have a lot of "warnings" but everything looks like it is working.
I have over 110K LOC, so I was a little worried about having to make a lot of changes...

I'm trying to convert a web application to vs.net 2005 version or 2.0. I followed the instructions from the Migrating a vs 2003 web project to vs 2005 tutotial, and it didn't work. Here is what happened,
Here is my scenario:
I have a 2003 solution the contains three projects. Two Windows services, and one web project. There is only one solution for the three of them. They wer created within the same solution. Now i want to convert all of them to 2.0.
I did all the changes as the tutorial suggests, The Windows services did converted succesfully as well as the web project or application. There were some minor errors that can be fixed very easily. After the conversion, I saved the projects and close the
converted solution. Modify the web project as instructed, save it and then opened the solution file through vs.net 2005.
The Window services did loaded successfully, but the web project did not load.
Here is the message error that i got: Unable to read the project file 'Ecert.vbproj'.
c:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Desktop\ECert\Ecert_1\Ecert.vbproj(194,4):
The project file could not be loaded, 'there is a square within this parenthesis', hexadecimal value 0x06, is an invalid character. line 194, position 4
Do you have any idea if what might have gone wrong. I think it should have been able to load, except that the system does not like the square that is between the parenthasis. or I don't know. Any Suggestions, or ideas on how to solve this problem.?
Any help would be very helpfull,

Any chance you could send me an email (email@example.com) so that we can kick of an email thread to figure out what is going on?
Also - would it be possible for you to attach the .sln file and .vbproj files for the converted projects? That way we can look at the project files to try and figure out why it might be having a problem.

Thanks for you response and you help, I was able to solve this problem. Basically, what happened is that the web vbproj got corrupted during the convertion. I just went in and changed the characters that were invalid. I was able to run the web app just fine.
But there is something wrong with V.net 2005S or the Web project. I can't view the Form all i am able to see is the HTML view of the forms. Also, I checked the other projects that i already converted a few months ago. those web and windows projects were converted
just fine and they all worked Except for the Web Apps. I think it has to do with the IE Web Controls. I'm geting some warnings that certain controls are not CLS complaint. I try uninstalling the Web controls but they are not displayed in the GAC. I reinstalled
them and when to the GAC to see if they are displayed and i can't find them. Before Converting this project, I was able to open the other web projects, run, and view the designer to modify the components. Now I can't view the designer for all of the web projects.
But the funny thing is that they run perfectly. Do you have any idea what's going on? I think that i probably need to repair the framework; it might have been corrupted at some point.
One more thing, I'm using a trieal Version to convet this applications because we are looking into purshasing vs.nt 2005. We are testing to make sure that we are getting the right product. I have this feeling that because i'm working on a trial version,
It's crushing on me very ofter. I've reinstalled vs.net trial version 3 times already for very similar reasons. When I initially converted the other web projects, i was not able to open the form's designer. I had to repair vs.net and after that convert the
apps agian, uninstall everyhing and intall them again. and this time i converted the web apps it would work just fine. Do you think that the trial version i'm using ot convert these web projects is very unstable or incomplete?
I don't know what to think about this product. At home i have a professional version of vs.net 2005 and i has not crashed on me at all.
any comments or suggestions, help is welcome.
