Anyone had an experience where you try to build and ASP.NET web app, and it never finishes the build?
The build icon that is shown in the status bar continues to animate.. but never finishes.
If I close the IDE, restart IIS, delete dll file from bin if it exists (from previous good compile) then reopen sln and compile, it works.. but error will happen again after modifications are made to the app.
This happens both by hitting F5 (run) or just from right clicking on the project and building it.
Never creates a dll or pdb file
Happens on various different webapp (even new ones) not just on a specific app. I have found some sites with people talking about similar problems, but no solutions have been posted.
Also, Just wanted to mention that this DIDN'T used to happen, and I have made several asp.net apps on this machine that always worked fine.
its asp.net 1.1 running on XP Pro SP2 blah blah blah
I have tracked it down a little further that it seems to only do this (from what I can tell now) when I add a new server control to the form (could be anything.. label button)
not even put code behind the click or whatever... just adding (or removing) the button on the page does it.

1-> Check if IIS is serving any requests for .aspx pages or not. Browse to any existing .aspx page which you had seen working earlier and see if IIS serves the request or not.
2->Open task manager and look for inetinfo.exe and do you see it consuming high CPU (50-95%) ?
3->Did you install Singular Connection Manager recently?? If so uninstall it and reboot your box.
Let me know what the results of step one are?

1) yes IIS works fine. Like I mentioned. I can close the offending solution and reopen it and it will compile and run fine. As soon as I add a control or 2 and recompile, it hangs
2) inetinfo.exe is fine
3) nope, infact nothing new has been installed between this issue happening and before when I had no issues.
I am currently doing a repair on my VS.NET and if that does not work I plan to do an uninstall/reinstall.
I am out of other options.
