I am building an web application using VS 2003. The app provides the ability to enter a date period and MS SQL server data is returned to a data grid. The page works fine for short periods but if a long period is selected the problem occurs. Selecting longer
periods could return 20000 to 30000 rows and this is displayed in the datagrid successfully. If I then initiate any other event on the page like picking a new date from a date picker a "The page cannot be displayed" error page is returned indicating "cannot
find server or DNS error". I can't see any obvious errors so if anyone has any suggestions where to start looking please advise.

First off, go into your browser settings and remove the "show friendly http error messages" this is causing the 404 error and not showing you the real issue.
My bet is that you are killing the viewstate with a ton of data. If you exceed a certain size with the viewstate then you will have all kinds of postback issues.
I would suggest setting up paging in the grid to only bring back say 25 recs per page. This will limit the size of the viewstate.
