The only difference betwen a child portal and a parent is the alias ie;
yourportal.com/child is a child portal. If you added a fully qualified domain to that portal say - yourportal1.com then you would have 'converted' that child to a parent.
So simply create your new portal (Host/Portals) as a child, then when you have the domain nmae sorted add that as an alias and you're done. You can also just create the parent portal direct if you have a domain name ready and resolving to your DNN install.

I have my new portal as parent and I want to use a different directory for that,
say I have my first portal at myportal.com/portal
and I set my second portal alias to myportal.com/2ndportal
This only directs me back to the first portal. What have I done wrong?
