OK, I've been at it the whole day, but I give up. I am a developer, not a dba but cannot get the database running.
REally like to get started with DNN but this is driving me nuts.
I've got a SQL2005 database named DNNbase, sql authentication for user: webuser password: test.
Database is up and running. I working on a XP Pro machine with framework 2.0 installed
Web.config has flwg strings:
<!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2000/2005
I know it says SQLEXPRESS as servername. This is strange as I first installed Visual Studio and then SQL Server 2005 Enterprise. But anyway. SQLEXPRESS seems to be up and running fine. I added the login
"webuser" and made it a db_owner on DNNbase via the Server Management Studio as set it to SQL Server authentication. Also I killed all the firewalls to make sure they do not interfere
Still i get the dreaded:
ERROR: Could not connect to database specified in connectionString for SqlDataProviderSystem.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When
connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) at System.Data.ProviderBase.DbConnectionPool.GetConnection(DbConnection
owningObject) at System.Data.ProviderBase.DbConnectionFactory.GetConnection(DbConnection owningConnection) at System.Data.ProviderBase.DbConnectionClosed.OpenConnection(DbConnection outerConnection, DbConnectionFactory connectionFactory) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection.Open()

What am I missing? Probabely something stupid.

Try using DB server IP instead of name... just to see if it clears up.
