There have been a number of posts related to using non-Xmod data in Xmod. Up to this point the answer has been "No". But now LucasLabs.Net has changed that answer to "Yes".
Introducing the LucasLabs.Net
Xmod Remote Data Module. This module allows you to connect to any OLEDB.Net compliant datasources and perform a SQL query against that datasource. The data is then converted to a format that the Xmod Template engine understands. This allows you to create
Xmod ListView and DetailView templates to format the display of non-Xmod data. This is a module that might be considered an add-on for Xmod. As such it does require that you have the
Xmod module installed on the site you wish to use
Xmod Remote Data.
This should really open the door to extend your use of
Xmod even more. I don't want this to sound like nothing but a marketinng post, however the potential here is huge. Imagine performing a big SQL query against data from other DNN modules and then being able to choose how to display or otherwise use the information
Xmod templates. Now you would be able to take other modules to another level.
Are you already a PowerReports Professional owner? This module can also utilize your Connection and Query objects from
PowerReports Professional seamlessly in the
Xmod Remote Data module. Again, this should keep you from having to duplicate some efforts.
Taken a step further, do you need to brnig in external data from another system into your DNN portal? This just might be the trick.
