Sorry, I'm a newbie and I looked for a FAQ before posting this. Installed 3.0.13 cleanly on a Windows 2000-Pro machine. The IIS virtual directory points to C:\DotNetNuke. I can open the default page and log in as host or admin.
I tried to create a new portal that will be the test site for my work. I used the Add New Portal page from the host's portals page. Filled out the name and such and it successfully created the portal but when click on the url (localhost/DotNetNuke/TestSite)
I get a 404 page not found error. I assume there is something I am missing. I will be using localhost to access this so there are no domain issues.
Is there a step-by-step walk through for creating these? Also, are there any good book recommendations since the book written by the core team won't be out for another month and a half?

sounds like a permissions issue .. aspnet needs modify rights to the root and other areas of the directory structure ..
this should be in the documentation or search the forum for permissions

I think it's my understanding of what constitutes a child vs parent site. I changed all the permissions and I have been able to create a functional child site but it's apparent my understanding of what a parent site is was messed up. Guess I have to read
