It appears the GotCommunityNet project has died. Is this so? Is there anyone working on the next version? I really hate to see it go away because the project seamed very promissing. - Matt
Dead or not, it still offers a relatively good solution to the problem is serves to solve. I'll use it and hope a new version will surface soon that takes advantage of the ASP.Net 2.0 featureset. - Matt
I can't speak for the rest of the team; but I myself am waiting until the ASP.NET beta 2 arrives before I consider giving a new version of the GCN any serious attention, and I suppose the rest of the team is probably doing the same. I'm currently building prototypes
of applications for my employer using ASP.NET 2.0 beta 1, and my current experience tells me that beta 1 is NOT yet ready for a final project the scale of GCN yet. There are so many fundamental changes in the 2.0 framework that a re-work of the GCN on that
platform will take on a drastically different architecute. And I am finding the new framework very challenging to learn and use effectivly. Not that it is difficult mind-you, but when developing a project as comprehensive as the GCN or CSK you must have a
firm understanding of the platform's features and capabilities in order to design and code such a project. The beta 2 version of VS 2005 will be complete enough to allow development on a new GCN to proceed... and hopefully by then I will personally have mastered
enough of the new framework to be able to contribute to the project. But for now, I'm still learning. Don't fret though. I have a project with my currently employer that will require almost all of the core features of the CSK/GCN, and it will be implemented
on ASP.NET 2.0. I am scheduled to begin active development on that project starting in March or April 2005. If there isn't a formal GCN 2.0 project underway before then, I will start one myself. But not before .NET 2.0 beta 2 is released. Patience, GCN 2.0
will be along in due time.
