I have a .NET 4.5 website that is intermittently getting viewstate verification errors on multiple pages. In a one week period the error occurred 36 times. Most of the posts on this forum for the error seem to be related to the site running on a web farm.
In my case there's only one server.
From the web.config:
validationKey="46F1..." (128 characters)
decryptionKey="4702..." (64 characters)
The application pool is scheduled to recycle at 1am when no one is using the site. What else could be causing this?
Thanks for your help,

Looks like you have already explicitly set the 'validationKey', which means that the problem is not caused by worker process recycling.
There are still some possibilities causing invalid View State issue.
You could refer to this documentation and check if there is any description like your scenario.
Troubleshoot the View state is invalid error with ASP.NET
In the documentation, you could refer to these topics.
Another direction is to find out the detailed error message from the logs (Failed Request Tracing or IIS log) and target the problem.
