The first step is to see what happens *exactly*. The app or server DOES return error messages, status code etc... which are precisely intended to narrow down much more quickly the EXACT problem that happens.
Once the problem is known it is usually quite easy to fix.
Trying to guess the problem based just on a "it doesn't work" description or trying to read the code and Wonder what could happen is usually much slower.
