i have a webpage that is hosted on free package - the hosting provider inserts some adverting text at the bottom of the page.
is there a way to remove the text after the page loads?

It would be likely a service infringement. You ARE required to show those ads for the free service they give you. Or find and use another free service if you don't like this.

If you do, you may be in violation of the free host's package agreement. That could result in having your account deleted and all your site content trashed as well. Check over their TOS agreement to make sure that you will not be in violation. This is the
thing, we get what we pay for. If it is "Free", we generally pay in some other way, be it advertising for the hosting provider, slower performance, bandwidth limits, etc. All that stuff is covered under their Service Level Agreement (SLA) and I recommend you
read that. If the provider has no problem with you not displaying their advert, we can tell you how you might be able to accomplish that with some quicky CSS trick.
