I have installed Visual Studio Code on an Ubuntu 14.0.4 PC.
How to develop Mvc apps on Ubuntu 14.0.4?
I tried running the following command in Linux Ubuntu Terminal:
$dotnet new console
But it only generates stub for writing console applications.

I use a mac, but its the same. try
$dotnet new --help
to get a list of possible new project option. the list will depend on which project templates you have installed. but by default you should be able to make a mvc application:
$dotnet new mvc

Do you want to create MVC template? Is there any issue with the command from bruce?
In general, when you install the .NET CORE SDK, you receive over a dozen built-in templates including Asp.net Core, you could use command below to list the available templates.
dotnet new -l
If the template is not list, you could refer link below to install the template.
