we are a team of 10 and want to develop applications in visual studio 2017. I am wondering would be possible to just have community edition as opposed to professional and enterprise edition. Applications we develop are web based intranet applications used
by few hundreds of clients.
Is it possible to have TFS as the source code repository for all the developers using community edition by registering individual accounts? I think organisational account is restricted to 5 users
Could anyone please suggest the differences and why cannot we go for community edition. would there be any drawbacks in the long run

you will get the same feature in VS Community as VS Professional.
but you can only use it for open source projects and learning.
you cannot do a professional project.
for that you need to upgrade to the paid version of it.
if we talk about TFS then to use that you need a subscription of it to use it.
so again you need to pay for it as it is a separate product.
you can try to check Visual Studio Team Services. but it will also only allows 5 users to use it for free.
as you are a big team, it is better for you to by a subscription of it and develop your project.
so that you will not get stuck in future because of subscription issue.
