Why does my screen flicker when click on a gridview page number? What do I need to do to stop doing it?

You can try wrapping it in an
<asp:ScriptManager ID="ScriptManager1" runat="server" />
<asp:UpdatePanel ID="UpdatePanel1" runat="server">
<asp:Label ID="Label2" runat="server" Text="" />
<asp:GridView ID="GridView1" runat="server" AutoGenerateColumns="False" DataSourceID="SqlDataSource1"
EmptyDataText="There are no data records to display." AllowPaging="true" AllowSorting="True"
BackColor="White" GridLines="None" PageSize="3" CellPadding="3" >
<asp:PostBackTrigger ControlID="myExternalButtonIfIHave1" />

According to your description, this issue is very odd. I need some information need confirm with you:
If this issue occurred every time when you click page number?
If you use some Ajax extender control with it? Or with updatepanel?
I hope you could post the complete code for us to test, this will better help you to solve the problem. Also here are someone who meet the similar problem as you, please check:

I have tried both AJAX and Updatepanel but none helped. It does not happen every time then suddenly start to happen. eg. I click on page 4; its good. Then I click o page3 or any other page then it starts to flick.
