I am developing an Intranet for my company.
Boss requires Register/Login and so that VS2017 generate standard one would do the job.
However, if we subscribe to complete SQL server the webhost/cloud service provider would charge us so much and on informing him about the cost he wanted me to abort use of IIS and switch to PHP since MySQL is basically free.
Please help... we can still afford Windows / IIS but given we really do not use SQL except for this single register/login database mdf file, what options do we have ?
Anything free or low cost like Ms SQL Compact, Ms SQL Lite etc ? Or use of Ms Access (However, I found now ASP.Net login site use EF Data provider and so Access cannot be used now).
Please help. I do not want to abandon use of ASP.Net as I do not want to go PHP myself but if no option then boss will make final decisions....

I am not too sure if we can use SQL Express in this internal use situation or it is not allowed? I saw the description as below:-
Microsoft SQL Server 2016 SP1 Express is a free, feature-rich editions of SQL Server that is ideal for learning, developing, powering desktop, web & small server applications, and for redistribution by ISVs.
So meaning ok or not ?

I read few articles all indicated it can be commercial use.
So concern is solved.
