A customer of mine has an ASP.NET site that was running fine for years on Windows 2008 R2.
I recently did a Windows Update, and now I am receiving the following error:
Unknown server tag 'cc1:SliderExtender'
I had been using an old version of the ACT from 2011. After replacing the dll with the latest and greatest, the error is the same.
What would be causing this to happen all of a sudden?
NOTE: Any suggestions will not be able to be attempted immediately since it will require contacting my customer and remoting into their server.

In the project, you need to update the Ajax control toolkit (ACT) there and try re-deploying the project to the server. I suspect the DLL may have gone missing from the project; that error usually means a lost or missing reference.

How could simply doing an Windows Update cause this to happen? No other changes were made.

Have regular server backups been taken? If ACT was one of the updates, I know there was a change to how we call it if the toolkit gets upgraded from version 3 to version 4. Take a look at the server and find out what version the AjaxControlToolkit.dll is,
I suspect it got updated to version 4.x but the app may have been running version 3.x

Is the act register still exist there?
<%@ Register Assembly="AjaxControlToolkit" Namespace="AjaxControlToolkit" TagPrefix="cc1" %>

I think oned may be onto something, also check that the ajaxcontroltoolkit.dll file is in the /bin folder. For all I know, it may have been removed from the web app folder. Trust me, it has happened to one of my sites before. Check your web.config to ensure
the reference to ACT is there.

Could it be that the .NET Framework was upgraded causing some kind of issue? Do you know which version they had and which version they have now?

I would like to thank everyone for their responses. I just wanted to re-iterate that I will not be able to access the customer machine until Tuesday, and that I am not ignoring your responses. I am just not at the point that I can do anything about them.
