I downloaded VS2017RC but why is there no option to create a new asp.net website in the IDE?

And you are 100% sure you selected this option in the installer ? What if you run setup again to include this?
Or do you use the macOS preview version? I'll have to get used asking for that ;-)

I just did the default install. I would assume that would install the asp.net website template because that's such a basic thing. I have always done default installs from vs2008 upto vs2015 and never faced such a strange problem. Is it that in vs2017 we
have to do a custom install to get such basic functionality?
Then what the heck does it install by default???

Not sure if that but if I remember I always have to check something more when installing VS 2015 Community.... Just run setup and check for updated products anyway especially as one goal was to redesign the installation process.
I'll really have to install that...
Edit; tried. On the right you see only the IDE is installed by default and you can pick either the type of loads you want or pick individual elements. Seems a nice change to me...
