We are moving away from forms authentications to ADFS authentication for our apps. Apps range from 2.0 - 4.0 framework and all are web applications. For example if the person logging in is a part of the Admin-Group then they will be assigned the ADM role
in the app, If the person is a part of the Finance-Group then they get the FIN role that doesn't have access to some admin pages like changing codes, locations, amounts etc. Does someone have an example of any such VB.NET/C# code or a web app?

Please follow the below steps to achieve your objective
1. You need to include ActiveDirectoryMembershipProvider
as the membership provider in web.config to enable ADFS authentication.
2. Also you have to add a reference to "System.DirectoryServices" to query active directory for user authentication.
3. You can manage the roles in Active directory by directly browsing and editing the active directory using any AD Browser tool. Provided you have the correct privilege with Create/Write access to AD.
Check the below links for complete documentation on AD with rolemanger.
