Can I do this from within the same project or do I have to build a separate library for the control?
Also is there any disadvantage to registering all controls to through Web.config (bloating?)? Seems bit of a pain having to remember to manually register controls to each page before they can be used.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

As far as I know, If you want to use this control in different projects, you need to create a separate library, on the contrary, if only in the current project, you only need to add to the current project.
The second question: If you register in the web.config, you can use in all the pages in the project, if you register in the current page, you can only use in the current page . If user control is displayed control , I suggest you create a separate library
, this can keep the style uniform.

Although the control has compiled correctly, it doesn't appear in the toolbox. Becomes a little annoying when you have to look for it in the solution explorer every time its needed.
Also, is it normal, to be able to view the visual control contents in Control Designer, but not when you add it to a form?
