i want to make a web site in a form of web API 2 service that get consumed by a ASP.NET MVC site + android app + IOS app. should i make the web API project and the ASP.NET MVC projects as separate projects ?
WHY or why not ?

Separate because the security concerns of the API are vastly different than those of the MVC project. Access tokens vs. cookie and you don't want to accidentally accept one when you meant another.

I suggest you can host your WebAPI project separately and provide service to your Web application (MVC).
For some reasons if you want them (MVC and WebAPI) to use in the same project, you can refer the following links.
