OK I have made a small (one page) test site in VS express.
How the heck do I publish it?
I was using Expression Web 4 where it is really, really simple but thought I would try VS.
I have looked all over the interest and can't find one simple instruction page saying - press this, press that, add your password here and there and your website will be on-line.
It seems to be quite difficult - but that's just as I don't know how to do it (yet).
Has anyone got a link to a site that gives clear and simple instructions on how to get my new VS 2012 website onto the internet (I have a hosting package alreadywith 5 other sites I have made in EW4)

Hi Jane, perhaps this how-to video may be enough to help you over the trouble you are having:

That video gives details of how to published to localhost - not to the internet.
Say I use ftp
so I create a profile
add in my detail ftp12.345.67.8
add in my folder public_html
add my password #####
add my user name #####
Verify the connection
In my host's file manager I can see my files and folders -
I get a message saying you are not authorised to view....etc
This really should be simpler.
What am I do wrong please?

Have you tried just right-clicking your project in Solution Explorer and choosing Publish? The wizard that launches is pretty easy, yet robust in features.

That was going to be my next suggestion, right click on project and click publish. Then step through the wizard, great thing is it saves the definition so next time, you just publish and click Publish again in the dialog.
