I'm not sure what you believe you have managed to achieve, but it isn't a change of your existing user name. The forums don't permit you to change your user name.
Ah, ok. There's a name field in my profile, and every other user I could find has the same value there as in their URL. So my assumption was that's the user name. I'm probably the first person who has changed this now. Guess I'll have to re-register with
another name then.
My forums account is linked with my Microsoft account. I cannot re-register with my Microsoft account, it will sign me in instead. What is the suggested procedure to do this? I tried to unlink the two accounts but can't figure out how. The whole account
management UI in this forum is quite unintuitive. Other sites do better.

Just testing whether my new user name is applied to this post. It's not updated in a few places here, even after singing out and back in.
Edit: Seems it's not applied correctly. I'm wondering why I can change my user name if it's only used in half the places.

You need to click the Contact Us link at the bottom of the page, and then click the ASP.NET Site Operations Help link to submit a support ticket.
