Using EF Core with ASP.NET Core, you can access MySql on linux. EF Core RC2 does that.
Refer this link https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/dotnet/2016/05/16/announcing-entity-framework-core-rc2/

but MySQL is an Oracle product, and they should be providing the .net core driver for linux, so if you need a timetable better than "soon" or "someday", you will need to ask them. Currently the only native linux databases supported by core are SQLite and
NpgSql. More are expected as core on linux or docker becomes popular.
Note: "Soon" SqlServer will be a native linux database and core already has the drivers.

You can use PostgreSQL and Entity Framework. I even made a npm generator which produces ASP.NET Core projects using EF Core and PostgreSQL. https://github.com/deatharrow01/generator-aspnetpostgresql
