Are you referring to the Find/Replace within Visual Studio?
If so - you can simply select the arrow that appears in the drop-down within the Find/Replace dialog and select either "Find Next" or "Find Previous" as seen below :

What is happening is this. When I need to change a whole lot of the same things to something else, then click the button to change them, instead of going on to the next one after it changes the first one, it goes to the previous one. It always went to the
next one till lately, and I am sure I accidentally pushed some buttons that now have it going backward. It says "backward" in the status bar at the bottom where it shows whether you are doing a search/replace on the whole word, etc, or not.

If your Find and Replace control looks like this,
you could follow
Rion‘s suggestion to choose the Find Next button.
Besides, if you have problem related to Visual Studio, please ask for help on Visual Studio forum.
