I am really struggling to figure out how to add a reference to fields from more than one dataset using the report designer in VS 2013 Professional. I have two datasets added under the Datsets menu but when I try and drag fields from the second dataset it
says that 'Only fields from the current dataset DataSet1 can be added'. Really struggling with this one and would love some guidance from anyone who knows :-)

Anyone got any ideas about this please? I've been struggling with this all day. Some resources suggest adding an expression like so to reference another dataset
!Fields(staff_member_name, "DataSet2") but this just puts a red line in place and generates an error.

Has nobody got a solution for this issue?

Per your description above, it seems that this issue is feasible to add data field from another dataset in SSRS, and you can do that via specify the scope of you fields.
You can learn more information using Bing, see:
Add data field from another dataset
Hope it helps.
