I'm looking fora functionality that if you press a button or a link inside of a webpage, it will automatically open excel in you local computer. The button or link that you press is defined with specific data for instance data "test" and you want to have
the data inside of the excel after you have pressed the button or link
Please remember that you have the data in the webpage and then when you press on the button or link you open the excel document automatically and the data from the wepage will be transered automatically to the excel document.
Is it possible to do it? if yes, how?
I have tried finding a solution by using sourcecode but I failed.
I'm using ASP.net MVC 4

What have you tried? Is this based on
So the idea would be to create an Excel file server side filled with the data you want and then show a download dialog for this file to the user (will be able to refuse, save or open the file).
You won't be able to open the Excel file without user consent for safety reason (or if I remember it was possible but requires a client side configuration which perhaps doesn't have any more any UI in Windows now). And anyway it is under the user control.

As for your problem, I agree with PatriceSc. You could write data from your web page to Excel file and make the file could be downloaded or opened. This article will be helpful,
you could refer to it.
