Categories of threads that are not marked as answered include:
the middle category sometimes gets marked as answered after some time has elapsed by the O.P. or by someone else.
however, from my personal experience, there is imho a high number of middle category threads that never get marked.
personally, this is frustrating and sometimes i wonder why bother if the O.P. does not care to revisit his/her thread.
i've possibly mentioned this before ... perhaps an automated direct message could be sent to the O.P. once per month ... also, perhaps you could add a flag to the profile schema to identified users who frequently fail to follow up such that whenever they
click "POST", they are reminded that it is courteous to mark their threads as complete when appropriate.
for forums.asp.members, marked answers help them find answers they need such that they may only have to sift through unresolved threads as a last resort.
