given a table that represents a schedule, e. g. the columns represent the day of week and the rows represent the hour of the day.
The pixel sizes of all the cells is fixed and defined in CSS rules.
I would like to add overlapping DIVs that represent appointments. Since all cells have fixed pixel sizes, the position and size of such a div should be computable.
But when the width of the table exceeds the width of the available space, the column sizes are reduced, even when there are fixed pixel sizes defined in CSS.
How can I determine the right position and size for my DIVs?

Did you try giving "!important" attribute to all the css properties you have applied to the elements ?
Hope this helps!

the "important" flag didn't help. But when I remove "display:table-cell", the columns keep their size!
But now I cannot vertically center text in the cells...

Can you share snapshots of your issue?
It is kind of difficult to analyze the entire thing, may be visual aids will help.
