I have created a WCF Service Application that runs fine on my local machine (IIS Express). It has a web service and one of its operations uses a managed dll which uses an unmanaged dll, both part of the SDK of a product in which I want to create an object,
based on input from another system. After deploying the web service in the production environment, IIS 8, one of the operations crashes at a certain point. I know which line causes this and I suspect that no exception is thrown (the operation would then return an
error message). How can I find out what causes the crash? I know the required dlls are loaded as expected. I have been struggling with how to set up remote debugging. Is there any other way?

Have you tried the Windows event log? Also see
Exceptions are not returned client side by default as it could be a security issue. Knowing what you see could perhaps also help (what seems to be seen quite often is hitting size limitation in which case editing the WCF config should be enough).
