I tried to read stackoverflow and here, but still not sure, do people actually use SignalR with Cordova on Android/iOS?
Several threads talk about loosing connections, timeouts etc

Yes, some people develop application using SignalR with Cordova on Android/iOS.
You could try to create a simple demo to test if it will be working well using SignalR with Cordova, if you have any problem when you are programming, you could post the problem in our forum.

not sure why you need to thank me for my post, but your link with zero upvotes is not very convincing. I know there is a way, but if you read my post, i am concerned about "loosing connections, timeouts etc"

Not sure if the others using this.
Only know if you want to increase the signalR connection timeout, I suggest you use the below code set the
public class Global : System.Web.HttpApplication
void Application_Start(object sender, EventArgs e)
// Make connections wait 50s maximum for any response. After
// 50s are up, trigger a timeout command and make the client reconnect.
GlobalHost.Configuration.ConnectionTimeout = TimeSpan.FromSeconds(50);
