I'm using Visual Web Developer 2010 Express with SQL Server 2008 Express, VB.
I have the routine below that sends a TextBox value to a new window, Footprints.aspx, where it can be edited. The question is: How do I return the edited value back to the calling routine?
Protected Sub Button1_Click(sender As Object, e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
ParamA = TextBox8.Text
MyArgsX = ParamA
Dim script As String = "window.showModalDialog('Footprints.aspx', '" & MyArgsX & "','height=800,width=800', 'scrollbars=yes');"
ScriptManager.RegisterStartupScript(Me, Me.GetType(), "popup", script, True)

There is a way to get the return value from the showModalDialog method.
Or just set a session variable from the modal dialog and access that session variable value in your calling routine.

data to the child occurs during the Formview update/insert commands when the mode is changing.
To that end I have revised the requirements for my parent/child relationship to a more manageable scheme whereby I only have to pass data to the child.
Thanks for your suggestion!
