What do you mean when you say it didn't work? Did you get errors? If so, what were they?

Official answer from Microsoft on the ADO.NET blog:
currently the EF6 projects and the source code are compatible with Visual Studio 2012 and .NET 4.5 only. We are planning to make it possible to target .NET 4.0 and considering making it buildable from Visual Studio 2010 but we just haven't done
the work yet.
Hoping my reply could be helpful to you.

Hi,I found following link:
Please check the page.
I just wonder for the error you are getting.
I hope you are trying to update from Manager Windows of NuGet as follows:
1) Open Manager NuGet Package Windows from From Tool
2) Click on Update Menu on the left, which will list of the packages for update.

Thanks for your post.
PLEASE LET ME KNOW THE STEPS , TO UPGRADE EF 4.0 TO EF 6.0 IN VS 2010 .
Install the EF6 NuGet package:
1.Right-click on your project and select Manage NuGet Packages...
2.Under the Online tab select EntityFramework and click Install
Note: If a previous version of the EntityFramework NuGet package was installed this will upgrade it to EF6.
Alternatively, you can run the following command from Package Manager Console:
PM> Install-Package EntityFramework
This link will show you details about Upgrading to EF6.
