What is the difference between the Web Service and OData?

OData is a protocol for building REST-based CRUD data services. OData services deliver data in a structured format such as JSON or ATOM. The term "Web Service" is much broader. OData services are a type of web service as are other REST-base services which
aren't based on OData, or SOAP-based services etc.

I am completely new to web service . So my questions may be very basic and not ideal on the comparison (Like odata vs WCF). Please guide through right options
Can we convert the WCF webservice to use the OData. Will there be any improvement in performance.
Will there be any performance difference in using the WCF Web Service?
