I need to provide autocomplete functionality for a textbox in my application , but the data is there in the database .
I know that there is a jquery plugin to accomplish this , but my question is as soon as the user types in 3 letters like 'ABC' how will I hit the database and get the data ?
or do i need to use a button to search ?

No, you don't need to use a button to search.
When you type word in textboxt like "ABC" ,it will auto search the result in the database .
