I read here and there that vb.net is a language for hobbyist.
Yet this language can do almost all what c# can do, plus it has a non C synthax that some prefer.
So how can it be just a hobbyist language ?

It's not. Visual Basic is a full-featured language and is equal to the task as C# is.
Visual Basic is the alternative to using a C-based language and many programmers prefer that.
Please note that I use and teach both Visual Basic and C#.
