Is it possible to use service broker on a database and use this to push notifications to a table/grid? i am currently using signalr, entity framework and a 3rd party grid these are all working between two or more instances of the same applications but if
the database is changed from a different source is doesn't auto refresh.

For your issue ,I suggest that you could refer to the tutorial about how to Sending SQL Notification to C# Application using Service Broker:

I think it depends on where you are calling the SqlDependency.Start Method. If you call it on the Application_Start() method of the Global.asax
file, it will run only once for the application life cycle so it has no idea whether the underlying database changed or not. So you need to call that again.
