I have finished my mvc5 application with sql 2008 database and want to upload now.I have copied the connection string to the web.config file in the mvc aplication and set the
<customErrors mode="Off" />
Now published, when running the website, it's giving an error that the database is not found, I opened my database server to view the tables and yet none is there. although I tested the connection before publishing and test was successful.
Can someone help me with this problem please

Where is your database? Are you using an Azure SQL Database?
Why are you using a SQL Server 2008 database? Why not upgrade to SQL Server Express 2014?

I had similar issue with azure deployment before. My resolution was to create a database in azure portal first and get hold of connection string pointing to that database.
Then I ran database update command in pacakge manger console with teh connection string to the sql server database at azure.

I suggest that you could deploy your local database to Azure SQL Server .
