Hi, I am currently trying to implement a send email feature on our application. I am doing development on a Windows 8 environment and read that Windows 8 no longer comes with SMTP Server, only an SMTP Service. However, I'm not really familiar with SMTP,
let alone configurations needed. Can anyone help me out? Here are further details and questions I have:
- I have an Outlook account setup on my laptop and I want to send email using that account.
- Where do I find the SMTP host name?
- Where can I check if the SMTP Service is running? Other configurations I need to make?
- How do I send email without hard-coding credentials in my code?

You don't need to configure SMTP on your windows 8 machine. You can use any existing SMTP service provider (such as your company email, gmail or any other) and send emails

You can use Outlook to connect to the exchange server or to any email system using SMTP.
Where do I find the SMTP host name?
If you are using outlook with SMTP you can check the Account settings for the SMTP.

It is better to ask your administrator about the SMTP details

You can specify the SMTP configuration in the config file and use it in C#. Please take a look at the following configuration setting

Thanks pprasannak. I saw one though where they are not storing the credentials in code or in config but they specified defaultCredentials="false". Any idea how to go about that?

For this scenario, if you want to
send email in ASP.NET C#, you could refer to the following examples within the links below:
Besides, this forum focuses on Web api , while for sending emails in asp.net, you could get further help by posting the issue here:
