You can attach a return false statement to the text box on keypress event and users wont be able to type in textbox
<asp:textbox ID="Textbox1" runat="server" onkeydown="return false;"></asp:textbox>

I think there is problem with autocomplete textbox when attaching any event, which event will be fired when user selected any value from autocomplete.

Thanks for your post.
AutoComplete is an ASP.NET AJAX extender that can be attached to any TextBox control, and will associate that control with a popup panel to display
words that begin with the prefix typed into the textbox. If user can’t type words in the TextBox, how can AutoComplete get the prefix?
Hope it will be helpful to you.
