The Pro ASP.NET Web API book is far from the only resource out there than can help you understand and learn how to build Web API applications, so I wouldn't worry about it. I'll provide a few different recommendations that might be solid alternatives below
About Web API
ASP.NET Web API is a development environment aimed at developing RESTful Web Services that will allow your application to easily send and recieve HTTP Requests (web
requests) and perform operations based on the types of Requests that are made to it (such as providing information about a user if provided their ID etc.) It was designed to replace the previous Windows Communication Foundation
(WCF) approach to developing Web Services within .NET.
You can learn more about it by visiting the Web API area of this site, which has a variety of tutorials and walk-throughs that you can use to practice and start building these kind of Web Services with Web API. It
would probably be the best place to start.
Other Web API Books (Free)
As I previously mentioned, there is rarely one book that will cover everything that you need. You might try visiting the following sites, which offer free PDF versions of a wide range of IT and Development books :
Although these are freely accessible online, I really would encourage you to purchase the book if it was helpful to you.
General Web Service Information Resources
If you need some advice on using Web Services in ASP.NET, I would recommend the following resources :
General Learning Resources
If you are still looking for a few other resources, I would check these out as well :
Those should be enough to get you started and pointed in the right direction for learning Web API.
(P.S. I used to live in Nigeria.)

@Rion, thank you very much, I am looking into it now. This Web API think is giving me some pains. I developed a plain text api which I tried to use in my win app, but all the http get/post I saw on win. Phone 7.1, 8, 8.1 are mostly on byte. So that is why
I want to really dive into it very well. so to write a better API for my school project app.
Thank you. 9ja for real man!
