Well, in essence, yes you can.
In my experience, LINQ makes things easier, if you are building a complex asp application.

EF is the recommended data access technology. You could use LINQ to SQL instead - Visual Studio still provides tools for working with LINQ o SQL, but it hasn't been developed for years. The syntax etc in EF is very similar to LINQ to SQL (it's all LINQ)
so there doesn't seem much point in using L2S for new projects.
