Windows Server 2008 R2. IIS 7. Visual Studio 2012.
I modified my web.config file to upgrade from .NET Framework 3.5 to 4.5.1 per the manual instructions at
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/vstudio/dd483478%28v=vs.100%29.aspx. No other files in my web site changed
other than the web.config. The web site builds (compiles) fine in VS, with no errors. Before the change in framework, I could select the default.aspx file, run it in debug (on my local computer) and the site came up fine. Now when I select default.aspx
and try to open in the debugger (IE 11), I get the following error page:
Server Error in '/' Application.
An error occurred while accessing the resources required to serve this request. The server may not be configured for access to the requested URL.
Error message 401.2.: Unauthorized: Logon failed due to server configuration. Verify that you have permission to view this directory or page based on the credentials you supplied and the authentication methods enabled on the Web server. Contact the
Web server's administrator for additional assistance.
Version Information: Microsoft .NET Framework Version:4.0.30319; ASP.NET Version:4.0.30319.18446

THE ANSWER. I found this solution at
1. Pressing F4 which brings up the Properties pane in the bottom right hand corner:
2, Choosing the application in the Solution Explorer pane. This will then display all the properties relevant to the project in the Properties pane.
3. Change the "Windows Authentication" property to
HOWEVER, I have a question. Why did I not have to do the above with my site when under framework 3.5?
