I save the display state of div's, position and whether or not they are block, inline, etc in a hidden field using the onSubmit event of the form control and then in code behind pull the information back out of the hiddenfields and position the divs where
they were before postback. Is there a jquery function that does the same thing?

There couldn't possibly be because jQuery is a client side language; when you post back you lose all client side "things".
You can use Ajax calls or tm an (fake Ajax) updatepanel. In this case you wouldn't lose client side.
