We are planning to use SignalR for an application which could be pushing about 70,000 messages per minute. We expect a similar load on the backplane. The application would be hosted on Azure.
The 3 available options for backplane are
1) Azure Service Bus
3) SQL Server
Though the AzureServiceBus is the recommended option on Azure, the costs are too high for us. Which of the other options is a better choice for us, for the loads we plan to handle. Our application primarily uses windows/microsoft technologies.
I hope to hear from people about their experiences in using Redis or SQL server in their backplane.

Since you said you primarily use microsoft and .NET technology, it's best you use SQL Server
